NJ OFF-SHORE WIND FARMS
RI OFFSHORE WIND FARMS
Our mission for every program is to turn an educational subject into a fun program. Wind power is a true non-pollutant, renewable form of energy. Windmills are in the news everyday both on land and for this program we focus on the proposed off shore wind farms near Block Island, Rhode Island and Atlantic City, New Jersey. Here is how we introduce that news to students or adults alike.
Deepwater Wind is now building the Block Island, RI Off-Shore Wind Farm, and it will be operational in late 2016.
We have developed an exciting, 2-hour program using 70,000 LEGO building blocks. Up to 50 teams, usually two per team, or family teams up to 4 people will build a windmill for each team. The windmills can incorporate color, pattern, and be really creative. They usually get to be 2-3 feet tall. As the program nears completion we unroll a 30 foot x 15 foot map of either New Jersey or Long Island Sound, so that all 50 windmills can be placed on the map in the general location where they are actually going to be built.
The purpose of the windmill program is to:
-
Promote teamwork and encourage people to work together
-
Start you thinking about wind energy
-
Tell you where there are new off-shore windmill projects and their status
-
Tell you about the windmill construction on land in the US
-
In general educate about renewable, clean, pollutant free energy
